Jamahal Hill was the real winner of the UFC 282 PPV event. The UFC did not waste any time looking to book their next light heavyweight title fight the moment the result of Jan Blachowicz vs Magomed Ankalaev ended in a split draw.
The ending to what was a near-perfect UFC 282 pay-per-view card was absolute chaos. The controversial decisions made by the judges left not only the fighters but also the matchmakers in a frenzy. The main event of the final PPV of 2022 ended in a split draw and neither Magomed Ankalaev nor Jan Blachowicz took home the vacant belt. Dana White, who was disappointed with the main event immediately picked up his phone to book Glover Teixeira vs Jamahal Hill for the next title fight.
The world was made known about this new title fight during the press conference from the mouth of the UFC supremo himself. Jamahal Hill, the new title contender revealed to Ariel Helwani in a recent interview that he got the offer before the two fighters even left the cage after their fight. “They called me quick as hell,” said Hill in the interview with Helwani.
“They [the fighters] hadn’t even left the cage yet. They were talking to Magomed, they call me, I say yeah and all that, and I’m looking up [at the TV] and he’s walking out of the cage,” added the title contender. Hill was also smart enough to immediately put out a tweet calling out the matchmakers and asking for the title shot. It looks like his efforts paid off in the end.

Jamahal Hill went crazy after he got to know he was fighting for the title next
Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill was initially supposed to fight UFC veteran Anthony Smith for a title elimination main event in March 2023. Given that Smith was coming off a loss against Ankalaev, UFC decided to offer rising talent a shot at the title. Glover Teixeira, the former champion will face Hill in Brazil at UFC 283. As soon as he got the call from the promotion, Hill wasted no time posting his reaction on social media.
“If you know, you f**king know. You already heard him [Dana White]. Let’s f***ing goooo!!” yelled Hill in excitement on his social media video. From the social media video, it can be seen that Hill still had his TV on from watching the fight which proves how quickly he got the call from the promoters. His opponent, Anthony Smith was heartbroken knowing he had lost an opponent just months before the fight.
Hill also showed respect for the UFC veteran and said, “It’s all love OG.” Smith is ranked above Hill on the UFC light heavyweight rankings and “Sweet Dreams” was excited to know he was fighting for the title next. Hill is coming off a three-fight winning streak with wins over Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos.
