Jan Blachowicz talks the loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267
After a successful title defense against superstar Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachowicz faced a huge upset against Glover Teixeira at UFC 267. The former light heavyweight champion explains what went wrong in his second title defense fight.
Jan Blachowicz defeated the amazing Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 with a stunning knockout to become the light heavyweight champion. His first title defense came against superstar Israel Adesanya but in his second defense, he matched up against the MMA veteran Glover Teixeira at UFC 267 which took place in Abu Dhabi.
Teixeira shocked the entire world with a submission in the second round against Blachowicz which ended the “Polish Power” reign as the light heavyweight champion. Jan is back to fight his way back to another title shot as he takes on Aleksandr Rakic this weekend. Ahed of the fight, Jan talks to Jim Norton and Matt Sera on UFC Unfiltered podcast and explains what he feels went wrong.
“Everything goes wrong,” said Jan on what went wrong leading up to the Teixeira bout. “Not only in the fight but before the fight, in the camp, I just don’t feel good. I forgot why I am doing that. I lose the fire inside me.”
Jan Blachowicz believes his defeat to Glover Teixeira will make him stronger
Jan has been fighting in the UFC since 2014 and has seen several ups and downs. The fighter has a record of 28-9-0 in his professional fighting career and fancies himself being knocked down when he is on the top of the mountain. Similarly, Blachowicz believes his beating from Glover will help him get stronger and come back to win the championship again.
“It is history for me right now. A new experience,” said Jan describing what the loss means to him as heads into the Aleksandr Rakic fight. “I need sometimes to lose my fights. If you check my history you will see. Now the fire is big again.”
Blachowicz has a motivation bigger than ever given that he has tasted what it feels like to be the champion of the division. Do you think the “Polish Power” will become a champ again?
