“For his belt, I can try,” Jan Blachowicz teases a fight at middleweight in a rematch against Israel Adesanya

“For his belt, I can try,” Jan Blachowicz teases a fight at middleweight in a rematch against Israel Adesanya

Jan Blachowicz- Israel Adesanya

Former UFC Lightheavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz might not be in a position to get a title shot at his division soon, so maybe he can try his hands at another weight class. Blachowicz last fought in May 2022 when he won his fight against Aleksandar Rakic via TKO due to a doctor stoppage in round 3. Blachowicz was most likely to get the next title shot against the current champion Jiri Prochazka but the latter called out for a rematch against the preceding champion Glover Teixeira.

Now Blachowicz, who’s most popularly known for handing the current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya the first loss in the latter’s professional career, is in a state of no idea in regards to his next fight. Blachowicz is 29-9 in his overall MMA career and has wins over the likes of Adesanya, Rakic, Dominick Reyes, Luke Rockhold, Corey Anderson, Ronaldo Souza, Jared Cannonier, Nikita Krylov, Jimi Manuwa, Ilir Latifi and many more.

In an interview for MMA Fighting’s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, Blachowicz talks about being sidelined by Prochazka which diminishes his chance of getting the next title shot, his recently viral face-off with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, the key to beating Prochazka and much more. Blachowicz then talks about a possible fight that can happen next for him if not the title shot, which is a rematch against Israel Adesanya but unlike the first fight at light-heavyweight, this time, Blachowicz is the one who’s ready to drop down as long as it’s for the title.

“If I have a chance, why not? For Izzy and his belt, to fight for the belt? I can try… For a title, I can sacrifice myself a little bit. Why not? I will do it,” says Blachowicz.

What do you make of this rematch between Blachowicz and Adesanya? Do you think this fight can be sold as significantly as the first fight? Who do you think will win? But for Adesanya to give Blachowicz his title shot, he may first have to defend his title against his nemesis from kickboxing days, Alex Pereira. Do you think Adesanya will be able to defend his title against Pereira or will it be a third straight victory over Adesanya for Pereira including the previous 2 wins in kickboxing?
