“Now that’s my role,” Jiri Prochazka aiming for no possibility except to become world champion come UFC 275
Glover Teixeira- Jiri Prochazka
Upcoming UFC light-heavyweight title challenger Jiri Prochazka is already a veteran of more than 30 fights and is just 29 years old, so the potential leashed is still a lot in this young Czech fighter. Prochazka is challenging for the 205 lbs title come this weekend against the current champion Glover Teixeira, who’s the oldest first-time UFC champion in history and is going to defend the belt for the first time at UFC 275.
UFC 275 happens this Saturday in Singapore and is the first numbered UFC PPV event to be hosted by an Asian country. UFC 275 is headlined by the aforementioned light-heavyweight title fight. The co-main event is the women’s flyweight title bout between the champion Valentina Shevchenko on her way for her seventh title defence and the challenger Taila Santos. Former UFC women’s strawweight queens Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk are in for scrap in a rematch, whose first fight is considered to be the greatest women’s bout in MMA’s history.
Jiri Prochazka perceives a “tough and strong spirit” inside Glover Teixeira
In an interview with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, Jiri Prochazka begins talking about his unique fighting style that is solely inspired by traditional methods and from the bushido way of living. Prochazka immediately calls out the martial art that inspired him the most into practicing tradition.
“I’m inspired by Karate tradition. In that, how they use these methods like I said [punching on] makiwara which is like a wooden stick, you punch the wood stick… your body has to be stable and strong and all this,” Prochazka says.
Followed by this, Prochazka tells what he saw in Glover Teixeira and what he’s aiming for when he looks at his opponent.
“I saw him at the face-off, I see a very tough and strong spirit. He’s a guy that keeps on going, like his last fight, he went through Blachowicz. I think about his last fight in Abu Dhabi, he was focused on [getting] the title. Now that’s my role, I’m here to take the belt,“ Proachzka concludes.
What do you make of Prochazka’s unique fighter mentality and who do you think wins between Teixeira and Prochazka? Do you think Prochazka becomes UFC champion in his career, and will he be able to keep the belt for long if he does become the champion?
