In an interview with The MMA Hour, Jiri Prochazka revealed the seriousness of his staph infection. He revealed how it impacted his training in the last weeks building up to the fight. Even though the illness had spread from his leg to his ear, Prochazka made an unexpected choice to continue with the fight in true Samurai fashion.

From the last weeks of preparation, I train just one week because of staph infection. After the fight, I fought with that for more than one month. I had antibiotics before the fight, so the last five weeks before the fight…The staph was on my leg, then it started to travel in my body, to my ear.

What makes Prochazka’s decision even more surprising is his persistent belief that he would defeat Alex Pereira, despite not being able to prepare due to the infection effectively. Prochazka has the attitude of a genuine warrior, emphasizing his conviction in conquering challenges and winning in every situation.

Unfortunately for Prochazka, the fight did not go his way, as he lost to Pereira via second-round TKO. Despite the defeat, Prochazka remains undaunted and plans to make a rapid comeback, with his next bout scheduled for April 13 at UFC 300 versus Aleksandar Rakic.
