“I am gonna be a surgeon” Joanna Jedrzejczyk more than ready to avenge her loss from Zhang Weili at UFC 275

Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk has locked her fighting spirit in entirety on just one thing, to defeat Zhang Weili ahead of their rematch this weekend. Joanna and Weili fought for the first time back in 2020 at UFC 248 where they were co-main event and involved in a strawweight title fight. The then-champion Weili defended her title. But the fight ended up being arguably the most incredible women’s MMA bout in history.
Joanna is now returning to fight after a break of more than 2 years. Weili has fought twice since then with a 2-fight skid in her title fights against Rose Namajunas. UFC 275 is taking place in Singapore and is the first-ever numbered UFC PPV event to be hosted by an Asian country. The fight card is headlined by UFC light-heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira defending his title against the challenger Jiri Prochazka. The co-main event is headlined by a flyweight title fight between the champion Valentina Shevchenko and the challenger Taila Santos.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk fully determined in becoming a “surgeon” in the rematch rather than a warrior against Zhang Weili

In an interview with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, Joanna talks about what went wrong in the first fight against Weili and how she will correct the mistakes going into the rematch. The winner of this fight is destined to fight for the title at least as per the UFC.
“I was staying in [her] pocket [-slang for offence range] too much. I don’t have to exchange, [I know] I can do it because I am a warrior and I can stand my ground,” says Joanna “I can be an assassin or hustler or OG, like okay, let’s fight like a street fight. [But] I don’t need that because I am crafty, I am smart…In this fight, I will be like a surgeon, I will be picking up the right tools and using them at the right time,” concludes Joanna.
What do you make of Joanna’s confidence going into the fight? Who do you think will win the rematch? Also, who do you think will be the strawweight champion at the end of 2022, is it still going to be the current champion Carla Esparza or someone else?
