Joanna Jedrzejczyk- Zhang Weili

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is looking to make a spectacular comeback as she is going to face fellow former champion Zhang Weili in a rematch next weekend at UFC 275 in the UFC’s first-ever PPV event hosted by an Asian country of Singapore. Joanna is returning to the Octagon after more than 2 years of layoff, with her last fight being the fight against Weili herself which is widely regarded as the greatest female mixed martial arts bout in overall MMA history.

Joanna in her prime had the record for the most title defences as the UFC strawweight champion and also holds the record for the most significant strikes thrown in UFC career in women’s strawweight history. Joanna has won over the likes of Carla Esparza, Claudia Gadelha, Jessica Andrade, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Jessica Penne, Michelle Waterson, Tecia Torres and many more. Weili won the first fight, only UFC 275 will tell who will win the rematch.

The UFC special Countdown for UFC 275 is out and Joanna aims to be a different fighter all together. For someone who has mostly focused on raining down her opponents with strikes with patience and volume rather than getting the job done in quickness, Joanna is aiming for a different outcome against her former opponent in Weili.

As quoted by MMA On Point, Joanna says “We are not the same after our fight. You made me better. I am coming for the knockout of the year this time.”

What do you make of Joanna’s newfound focus that is making her get back to fighting? Who do you think will win the rematch? Do you think the winner should be the next in line for the title shot? Also, where do you put Joanna amongst the best female fighters of this generation? As the first-ever Polish fighter to become UFC world champion, Joanna is definitely a ray of hope for many upcoming, promising combat athletes to come from the land of Poland.
