Sean O’Malley, unquestionably one of the top prospects in the promotion, has demonstrated why he’s considered a standout in the MMA world. During the UFC 292 PPV main event, his impressive right-handed jab in the second round overwhelmed his opponent, former champion Aljamain Sterling.

The bout ended in a no-contest when ‘Sugar’ connected with ‘Aljo’s chin, causing him to hit the canvas. Fortunately, the ‘Funkmaster’ didn’t sustain significant harm from the blow. However, losing his title will undoubtedly weigh on him as he departs from the Boston PPV. Furthermore, this thrilling showdown has left MMA experts and commentators such as Joe Rogan, Jon Anik, and former Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier stunned by the skills displayed by the new Bantamweight champion.

Rogan said, “What a division! I mean this division is just a murderer’s row – it really really is. I believe Aljo’s probably going to stay in the division and try to get rematch…Who knows – because you’ve got Merab there who’s his teammate and ‘Chito’ Vera fighting him for the title. Petr Yan lost a very close decision loss to Sean O’Malley – he’s still in the hunt.”

Cormier discussed the distinctive aspects of the division and highlighted that O’Malley’s win has the potential to bring stability to a division known for frequent title changes. Additionally, ‘DC’ analyzed ‘Sugar’s performance, praising his ability to defend against takedowns.

He said: “It’s a crazy division…because you can’t hold on to the championship. Everybody’s so good – so, can Sean O’Malley be that guy? Can he be the guy that brings stability to this division?..After watching him[O’Malley] defend takedowns in the way that he did – it’s hard to envision those guys just wrestling him.”
