Rose Namajunas, after the victory at UFC 261, defended the title against Weili in a rematch at UFC 268. However, she lost the title via split decision to Carla Esparza at UFC 274 in an uneventful fight. Weili won back the title from Esparza at UFC 281. Rose Namajunas is scheduled to fight Manon Fiorot at UFC Paris on September 2. The fight has title implications as the women’s flyweight title fight between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko happens on September 16. Manon Fiorot is undefeated at flyweight while Namajunas is moving up in weight.

Namajunas said on the pre-fight presser that she doesn’t see her at strawweight anymore. She is not going down to 115 pounds anymore. Namajunas has looked drained after cutting weight to 115 pounds. Fighting at 125 pounds would come naturally to the former two-time strawweight champion. With Erin Blanchfield defeating former title challenger Tailia Santos by decision, an eye-opening victory for either Fiorot or Namjaunas can land a title shot.

“Thug Rose” showing hesitancy to fight at strawweight highlights the issue of weight cutting. The primary motive behind Namajunas’ move is health. Moreover, she holds two victories over the current champion, Zhang Weili.
