The rear naked choke is one of the few moves that, if performed incorrectly, can cause serious damage or even death. Despite the risk, videos of influencers and comedians getting choked by the move from professional fighters are making the rounds on the internet. While many find it funny MMA experts like Matt Sera, Joe Rogan and more think this needs to stop.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to MMA. Former UFC champions, coaches, and analysts together can form a perfect panel that could very easily assume the position of judges. Joe Rogan, during one of his podcast episodes, invited some of the most renowned names in the world of MMA. Former UFC champion Matt Serra, analyst Din Thomas, and coach John Rallo were the elite MMA troupe assembled on the podcast.

During their time on the show, the group discussed the dangers of performing the rear naked choke. They also discussed how a marine killed a person on drugs by performing the RNC. Following that, Matt Serra called out Michael Bisping for performing the RNC on comedian Steve-O. He also called out middleweight fighter Marvin Vettori for performing the same move on internet personality Stephen Deleonardis. He added, “If he dies, he’s responsible.”

“Guys you might crush his f***ing throat. You want a v on your neck, that’s an L. I mean yeah you’ll put him out but he’ll be eating soup for a f***ing week,” said Matt Serra, critiquing Bisping’s technique. Clearly, the troupe knew what they were talking about, as most of them have used the move. Even Joe Rogan had used it once when he choked out a crazy heckler.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is mostly a calm person who likes to be rational. However, even he has his moments handling stuff when things go south. During his earlier years doing stand-up comedy and commentating for the UFC, Rogan choked out a person after a heated argument.

In 2004, outside the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Rogan got into an argument with an angry person. Both discussed immigration before things started heating up and the person touched Rogan’s shoulder. While Joe Rogan might not have fought in the UFC, he was still a mixed martial artist.

The color commentator was trained in BJJ, taekwondo, kickboxing, and more. This is why Rogan knew he could do some serious damage. Joe, despite being agitated, warned the guy to go away. However, the person was not smart enough and got his windpipe crushed by Rogan. He was put under a guillotine choke by the color commentator until he tapped out.
