“He was a real dark horse” – Joe Rogan and NFL legend Aaron Rodgers fanboy over Leon Edwards’ crazy knockout of Kamaru Usman at UFC 278

Joe Rogan and Aaron Rodgers talk about Leon Edwards

No matter who is on the Joe Rogan podcast, the UFC commentator will find a way to geek you out about mixed martial arts. This time it was NFL Legend Aaron Rodgers who was completely invested in a conversation about last weekend’s legendary knockout by Leon Edwards against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278.

UFC 278 will be remembered as the fight event that ended the dominant reign of Kamaru Usman as the welterweight champion. Credits to Britain’s Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards who managed to stun the world with one of the best upsets of all time. Joe Rogan, who was calling the fight live sitting octagon-side, still can’t believe that Leon managed to pull off a knockout like that in the final minute of the fight.

Recently the UFC commentator had NFL Legend, Aaron Rodgers on his podcast and discussed the victory of Leon. Rodgers also seemed to have caught the action between Usman and Edwards which took place at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City. “That was the greatest come-from-behind head kick knockout ever!” Joe said to Rodgers when the NFL star brought up the knockout.

“It looked like Edwards had resigned to the fact that he was going to lose on a decision,” Rodgers added on Leon. “He was mentally broken and then he went out there and landed the greatest headkick in the history of the sport,” Rogan said about the headkick knockout.

It is a very well-known fact that Leon Edwards was undoubtedly the unluckiest fighter on the roster in recent years. The fighter has been in several canceled bouts and was deprived of a title shot for a long time. Joe also believes the same and says, “There were all these setbacks but we had always known he was one of the best in the division. He was like this dark horse. This guy, maybe in the general public wasn’t aware of and he was this super talented guy that had only lost one time and it was to Usman.”

Aaron like any other fan seems to be a huge fan of the reaction from the commentary team following the headkick of Leon at UFC 278. UFC recently dropped videos of Joe and his commentary friends including Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik losing their minds over some amazing knockouts. “I loved yours and Daniel’s reactions, they were some of the best,” said Rodgers.

“That’s one of the beautiful things about MMA, is that you could come from behind with one move, one thing, and it will shut it all off,” said Rogan explaining to Rodgers why combat sports is different from the rest of the sports. It is always fun to watch greats from another sports talk about mixed martial arts.
