Following Sean O’Malley‘s victory at UFC 292 where he secured the bantamweight championship with a second-round TKO finish against Aljamain Sterling, Joe Rogan provided his insight on the significance of the win and the strength of the bantamweight division. O’Malley’s unexpected triumph against Sterling, who had successfully defended his title against notable contenders, surprised many given O’Malley’s underdog status. Both Rogan and Daniel Cormier discussed the depth of the bantamweight division in the wake of O’Malley’s win.

Rogan, speaking on ESPN post-fight, referred to the division as a “murderer’s row,” emphasizing its competitive nature. He speculated about potential matchups, including a rematch for Aljamain Sterling, contenders like Merab Dvalishvili and Marlon “Chito” Vera vying for the title, and the persistent presence of Petr Yan despite his loss to O’Malley.

Rogan emphasized the intense competition within the bantamweight division. The competition level is easily understood by the fact that 5 former champions are still active in the division. They are Aljamain Sterling, Petr Yan, Henry Cejudo, Dominick Cruz, and Cody Garbrandt. A year back the division had former featherweight and lightweight champions Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar respectively.
