UFC commentator Joe Rogan is an expert in Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rogan began training in Taekwondo at a young age and even competed in kickboxing tournaments. However, he stopped it in fear of concussion and concentrated on his comedy career. The success of BJJ in the UFC made Rogan become a student of it.

Royce Gracie used BJJ to full effect as he won three UFC tournaments. Rogan has always spoken highly of BJJ techniques and practitioners. In a podcast episode of JRE that featured Matt Serra, the former UFC champion explained the benefits of the crucifix position in MMA. The explanation made Rogan laugh out of control. Nonetheless, this is what Serra said about it.

It is wild that even the most flexible motherf*ckers, If you get them get them in a crucifix. It doesn't matter if they coud suck their own dicks. They're still getting fucked up.

John Gallo and Din Thomas were also on the podcast alongside the former champion. Serra’s unfiltered explanation also made Gallo and Thomas laugh out of control. Nonetheless, Serra’s statement is more true than funny as it is practically impossible to escape the crucifix position.

Valentina Shevchenko scored a TKO victory over Jessica Andrade and Katlyn Chookagian with the crucifix position to defend her flyweight title. Moreover, Zhang Weili used a modified version of the position to submit Carla Esparza to become a two-time women’s strawweight champion.

Ex-UFC champion Matt Serra explains how he upset UFC GOAT to Joe Rogan

Monumental upsets in UFC history have happened rarely. Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey, Matt Serra vs Georges St-Pierre, and Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland remain the most famous ones. In his appearance on JRE, Matt Serra explained how he upset GSP, who became a GOAT later.

Many consider Serra’s victory over GSP to be the biggest upset of all. Serra scored a TKO victory over GSP at UFC 69. Serra explained that he bagged the victory after a lesson he learned from his fight with Karo Parisyan, a Judo specialist. He had hurt Parisyan early in their fight but lost as he got overexcited for the finish.

When he hurt GSP early in the fight, Serra did not repeat his mistake with Parisyan. Serra credited that as the main reason for the victory. Joe Rogan also revealed that it did surprise him at the time as he did not know that Serra had powerful hands. Serra is an accomplished BJJ practitioner from the USA, and Rogan never thought Serra would finish GSP via strikes.
