“She’s a truly special talent” – Joe Rogan once said Ronda Rousey could beat 50 percent of men in the bantamweight division

Joe Rogan shares an interesting story about Ronda Rousey! Day by day, the sport of mixed martial arts continues to see great fights both in the men’s and women’s divisions. When it comes to the latter, fans have witnessed some tremendous bouts and dominant champions. The likes of Valentina Shevchenko and Amanda Nunes have achieved global popularity. However, looking at the current scenario, would one believe that some time ago, women did not fight in the UFC? This changed only when one woman named Ronda Rousey stepped inside the octagon.

An Olympic bronze medalist in Judo, Ronda Rousey had already proved her worth to her nation. However, that wasn’t enough for Rousey. Hence, she moved to mixed martial arts and had a very successful run in the sport. In her prime, Rousey was considered the most feared woman on the planet. She amassed a winning streak of 12-fights until she first tasted defeat. Rousey’s skills in the octagon were second to none.

While many regarded Rousey as the greatest female fighter on the planet, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan once went one step further. The long-time UFC employee mentioned that Rousey was capable of beating 50 percent of the men in the UFC bantamweight division.

At UFC 184, Rousey made a successful title defense against Cat Zingano. The Olympic bronze medalist asserted her dominance as she won the fight in 14 seconds of round 1 via an armbar. This victory led many people to believe that Ronda Rousey could not be stopped.

The one man on the same hype train was UFC color commentator Rogan. The podcast host dropped a major compliment Rousey’s way. He said, “There’s a lot of guys her size she could beat. I mean, a lot. If you took the roster of the UFC’s bantamweights, 135 pounds, and you paired them up against Ronda Rousey, she might be able to beat 50 percent of them. That’s not a joke.”

Rogan did not stop here. He further mentioned that the percentage could be increased depending on Rousey’s capability of surviving the offense that would come her way. “If she could take the kind of punches that some of these guys might possibly land, it might get up to like 60 percent. She’s a truly special talent,” concluded Rogan.

While Rogan made a bold claim, Rousey’s form started to dip the same year. Even though she managed to successfully defend her title against Bethe Correia, the former bantamweight champion slumped to Holly Holm at UFC 193. Being the tough woman she is, Rousey tried to make a comeback against Amanda Nunes a year later at UFC 207. However, it did not work out for her once again as Nunes knocked her out in the first round. What do you think about Ronda Rousey’s career? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
