In the 1140th episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan recounted a troubling incident from his past. He shared a story involving a 16/17-year-old individual who had allegedly used steroids when Rogan was in high school. Joey Diaz was the guest on the episode.
Rogan recounted an incident from high school of the alleged Steroid user. He said, “He went to a party one night in college. Some college kids mouthed off to him and he knocked out three college kids. He was like a bull, he would charge at people. He was always angry.” Joe Rogan was describing aggression that can emerge from the misuse of steroids. Steroids enhance physical performance but can also have serious adverse effects on an individual’s mental well-being. Rogan would again see the person a couple of years later but the man was about 160 pounds. He attributes the use to not using steroids that he allegedly took.
UFC, where Joe Rogan serves as the commentator at select pay-per-view events had a history of steroid users. However, by partnering with USADA, the promotion has been successful in removing that element from the sport. Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, and Jon Jones are among the few who have a troubled past with doping. USADA roles are strict and have resulted in big suspensions. Even Sean O’Malley, the current bantamweight champion had trouble in the past.
Conor McGregor‘s return to the octagon is delayed mainly due to USADA regulations. The Irishman has allegedly taken steroids and this has made it impossible to get cleared by USADA. It is to be noted that the Irishman has not tested positive for any banned substances. Jeff Novitzky is the Senior Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance for the UFC who oversees the doping-related matters for the promotion.
