The brilliance of Brock Lesner in the MMA community is legendary. He is known for his giant physique and immense strength. Lesner became the UFC heavyweight champion in UFC 91 after beating Randy Couture. Recently, in the Joe Rogan Experience featuring Hulk Hogan, Joe Rogan discussed the specialty of Lesner. Rogan credits Lesner for coming into the UFC with no prior MMA background. He believes Lesner could have been a more giant star if he had received proper training.

Rogan said, “If he was coming fresh outta college today, and someone like Firas Zahabi or Henri Hooft, some top-flight MMA instructor gets a hold of him as a young man and teaches him, really teaches him how to strike, where he is comfortable and he can move just like elite guys of today. He would have been unstoppable”. Lesner was a gifted fighter, and Rogan believes some formal training would have led him to greater heights.

Lesner’s dominance over the heavyweight division ended after his fight with Cain Velasquez in UFC 121. Velasquez was able to beat him through a technical knock out. For a fighter who came from a completely different background, Lesner’s achievements are phenomenal. Later, his attempts at making a comeback was not successful and suffered brutal losses against fighters like Alistair Overeem.

Lesner was also featured as a coach in The Ultimate Fighter 13. His opposing coach was Junior Dos Santos. Due to Lesner’s weak health conditions, their scheduled fight could not take place. Later, he could not participate as much because of his failing health issues.

Brock Lesner was a fighter like no other in combat sports. With no proper extensive MMA training, he was able to dominate the heavyweight division for quite some time. Lesner’s massive physical features have been credited for his performance. Aside from that, Joe Rogan has also confessed that UFC, during its early phases, was not so strict on the use of steroids.

Rogan gives the example of the Lesner vs Alistair Overeem bout. Both the fighters have failed pre-fight drug tests numerous times. During their bout too, it was clear that the huge frame of the heavyweights was unnatural. Rogan called this legendary matchup ‘Steroid Olympics’. The fight ended with Lesner getting knocked out. He later revealed that he had not completely recovered from his medical issues going into the fight.

Today the drug regulations in the UFC are carefully monitored and extremely strict. Heavy fines and disqualifications are put upon those who don’t follow. Many have even suggested that such fights in the past should be considered no contest.
