The UFC 293 had exciting fights, with seven fights ending in finishes. The event also saw a new middleweight champion in Sean Strickland, who defeated Israel Adesanya to win the title. However, that was not the only thing new that night in Australia. Renowned MMA broadcaster Laura Sanko made her debut on the UFC commentary team. She replaced longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan for the event in Australia.
Sanko joined the commentary team with Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik and fit right into it. In her debut, Sanko provided commentary for all of the fights on the card, including the main event between Adesanya and Strickland. Fans praised Sanko’s commentary for accurately analyzing Strickland’s strategy and Adesanya’s weaknesses. This has led to fans favoring her over Rogan as a permanent commentator.
Sanko has been with the UFC since 2013 and previously served as an interviewer, on-off ring announcer, and analyst for the promotion. She made her commentating debut in the UFC at Dana White’s Contender Series 5. Sanko then commentated at UFC Vegas 68, and the fans appreciated her commentary. She was also an MMA fighter, having competed four times from 2005 to 2007.
Rogan watched UFC 293 on his podcast and streamed his reaction on YouTube. Both Sanko and Rogan play important roles in the UFC. Sanko is helping to raise women’s profile in the UFC, while Rogan played a major role in the UFC’s rise to the top.
