During an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Rogan spoke about the fight that got him into wrestling.
Rogan was asked by fellow podcaster and standup comic Robert Kelly if he ever got beaten up during a street fight. Rogan revealed that he tried to avoid street fights but has gotten into some during high school. He said, “One time, this dude grabbed me in a headlock and threw me to the ground. I felt helpless”. Rogan said that the helplessness was the reason that he started to wrestle, which led to him being introduced to the UFC.
He also said that he traveled worldwide from age fifteen to twenty, competing in various competitions. He holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has studied kickboxing, taekwondo, and wrestling. Rogan’s understanding of martial arts has aided him in his career as a pundit. He has spoken about street fights and the dangers of getting into one on his podcast multiple times.
