The UFC commentary trio of Joe Rogan, Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier are loved by fans of the sport the world over for their deep analysis of each moment of UFC fights. This certainly entails having tremendous knowledge about the sport.

A clip has emerged that shows that the beloved commentary team is not an expert on everything. Fret not, it has nothing to do with the art of MMA per se.

The concept in question that befuddled the trio is that of NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens. Quite simply, an NFT is a one-of-a-kind trading card, however, it is non-fungible as per The Verge, meaning that one can’t be replaced with another. These tokens have become immensely popular, with some art pieces in the form of NFTs selling for an excess of a few million dollars.

Of late, the UFC has tapped into NFTs as well, and fighters are also catching onto the digital concept. Darren Till comes to mind, whose company BlockAsset deals with NFTs. Additionally, Israel Adesanya promoted an NFT chain of him knocking out Robert Whittaker in the build-up to their second fight in February this year.

We can give UFC commentators a pass on this one, as they are usually more than adept with detailed analysis of the fights. Coming to the incident, Joe Rogan asked Jon Anik in the midst of a fight, “Let me ask you an honest question, Jon Anik. Do you understand NFTs?” to which Anik replied, “I know what NFT stands for… but no!

Daniel Cormier hilariously joined in, equally confused, saying “Do you know what an NFT is?” to which Rogan replied in the affirmative. Continuing, the commentator said, “I’ve had 10 smart people explain it to me and I just look at them with an open mouth.

The UFC has launched its own line of NFTs

NFTs are quite the craze at the moment. Seems like each conversation includes a direct, or an indirect reference to them.

The most popular NFT would have to be one of the Bored Ape NFTs. Interestingly, purchasing a Bored Ape NFT also entails membership to the slightly exclusive Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Seeing the massive popularity of NFTs, the UFC decided to tap into the market this year. Partnering with Dapper Labs, the promotion launched “UFC Strike”, which is a collection of iconic UFC moments captured inside an NFT.

As per the official Dapper Labs website, the NFTs will “capture incredible finishes and amazing displays of striking and grappling from UFC fighters like Francis Ngannou, Amanda Nunes, Kamaru Usman, Rose Namajunas, Derrick Lewis, Justin Gaethje and more. These NFT Moments will include the best action shots from multiple camera angles, announcer commentary and crowd response from actual fights.”

With a lot of exciting promotional work being done, the UFC can bank on these NFTs to sell like hot cakes.
