Joe Rogan has the fighter’s knowledge about MMA without having any career in MMA. But this is not true. The 55-year-old UFC commentator has fought many fighters in the past. And having enough experience to tell what an MMA fighter can go through in an MMA career.

As per Joe Rogan‘s bio available on the internet, Rogan has won US Open Taekwondo tournaments at an early age. At 19, according to Blackbelt Magazine, Joe Rogan won a taekwondo tournament. During his podcast, he discussed many things about MMA and MMA fighters that can only be possible if someone has experience in the field or has competed there for some time.

The things Joe Rogan shares with guests are more than just the MMA fight and training. Talking about the whole science is the main motive of the podcast mainly which makes this MMA sport great. One time when Mike Tyson was on his podcast he also revealed why he never competed as a professional fighter in MMA.

Joe explained to Mike Tyson, “I went from taekwondo to kickboxing and when I started kickboxing I started getting f***ed up. Dudes were beating the s**t out of me because I was realizing I can’t keep people at the same distance anymore because I didn’t know how to use my hands properly… and then I realized there is no future in this, what am I doing? I’m just getting my brains beat in… So a lot of headaches, you know… but when I did stop fighting it was a huge relief.”

Joe Rogan has also said in the past that he was called a loser as a child, so to fight against it, he started learning martial arts. At the age of 14, he started taking training in karate, and at the age of 15, he also started to take training in taekwondo. At the age of 19, when he won the US Open Taekwondo Tournament, he competed in the lightweight division. He stayed champion for some time, but unfortunately, he had to retire at the age of 21.

While talking with Dave Chappelle on Joe Rogan Podcast he said “I was always trying to knock someone unconscious… There was one time that I never recovered from. I knew this dude was a bit slow and he was doing some things, I was seeing some openings and I hit him harder than I hit anybody in my life.” He explains the pain “I hit him with a wheel kick… I hit him hard I was limping for a couple of days afterwards because my heel hurt and I flat lined him. He face planted, he started snoring and he never got out. They carried him off the stretcher. It scared the s**t out of me.”
