Dan Henderson praised champion Sean Strickland on his recent victory. The former Strikeforce and PRIDE Champion had trained with Strickland for three whole years. Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, to become the new middleweight champion. He has applauded the champion’s commitment, that too reeling from facing an accident.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience #149, the host brought on the topic of Strickland’s win. Henderson said that he had seen only parts of the titular bout. Joe Rogan praised Strickland’s defense strategy, saying that he could seemingly go more rounds, at round 5 with Adesanya. On his underrated ground game, Henderson said:
His natural ability is his cardio. he knows how to fight well too. But naturally - he has cardio for days.
Previously, he had to let Strickland go off his Team Quest gym, due to rude behavior with peers. Despite this, he mentions rooting for him. On the subject, he said:
This was a while ago, and I see that [it was a young Strickland]. I always rooted for him when he left, I thought he had a ton of potential. I was yelling at him to go up a weight class because he was always trying to make 170…I saw parts of [his win over Adesanya], and he looked great.
On the podcast, Henderson has also praised the fighter for bouncing back from hurting his quadriceps musculature. He mentioned Strickland being a positive force in his gym, edging everyone on to work hard, and doing it so himself.
Khamzat Chimaev warns off Sean Strickland ahead of potential titular bout
Going toe-to-toe with Kamaru Usman at UFC 294, Khamzat Chimaev secured a victory, and a shot at a middleweight title bout. He may now face champion Sean Strickland. Ahead of this, Chimaev took to X to forewarn the newly minted champion.
Some have argued that the “Borz” should fight someone else before Strickland. Disregarding this, he has his sights set on the championship opportunity. The top contender thus wasted no time in putting Strickland to notice. Both Chimaev and Strickland have been former training partners.
Chimaev wrote on social media that Strickland is next, and mentioned that he knows how fast he can finish him. Both fighters have had utter reverence for each other in the past. Strickland too has commended Chimaev as being better than most.
