Despite not winning the undisputed belt, Tony Ferguson was arguably one of the great lightweight fighters in the UFC. However, his impressive record took a dent in recent years as ‘El Cucuy’ lost fight after fight. Recently, he lost his fight against Paddy Pimblett in UFC 296. Now, UFC commentator Joe Rogan spoke about Ferguson and his recent losing skid on his JRE podcast alongside Sean Brady. As such, he urged the UFC veteran to consider retiring.

In his podcast, Joe Rogan wondered when Tony Ferguson should stop fighting and questioned the nature of Tony Ferguson’s current training. As such, he acknowledged Ferguson’s unique training methods and his collaboration with David Goggins. But Rogan doubted whether he was sparring and doing technical stuff. Here is what he said:

A guy like Tony (Ferguson), at what point does someone step in? I also don't know what he's doing in training. Like, the Goggins stuff is great and everything like that, but who's he sparring with? Is he sparring? I don't know what he's doing. But, it worked for a long time. He was the boogeyman.

Further in the podcast, Joe Rogan joined Sean Brady in reminiscing about Tony Ferguson’s illustrious 12-fight win streak. As such, he mentioned ‘El Cucuy’ being a ‘scary-scary man’ for many years. Likewise, he touched on Ferguson’s knee injury and his quick comeback in all fascination. However, Ferguson lost seven fights in a row, and critics condemned him to hang up his gloves.

Even after seven straight losses, Tony Ferguson didn’t think of retirement and hinted at continuing fighting. In his last fight, Paddy Pimblett dominated him for the whole three rounds and secured a comfortable unanimous decision. As such, people believed he would retire but the 38-year-old didn’t seem to think of that scenario. However, what’s next for ‘El Cucuy’ remained unknown and mostly unpredictable.

Joe Rogan looks back on Tony Ferguson’s knee injury and his comeback

In his conversation with Sean Brady in the JRE Podcast, Joe Rogan looked back on Tony Ferguson’s ‘El Cucuy’ era. The time when he racked up 12-straight wins. As such, he spoke about Ferguson’s knee injury before his title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Also, he was fascinated by the quick turnaround from the injury.

Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to headline UFC 223 with the lightweight title up for grabs. Rogan gave props to Ferguson on coming back and beating Anthony Pettis in just five months. Here is what he said:

Isn't that fu****g crazy? Getting ready for the Khabib fight, Madison Square Garden. Massive fight! And trips over a cord, just blows his knee out. Doesn't make any sense. (Cameback from injury) and beat Pettis. Beat the sh** outta Pettis. That was his comeback fight. It was only if I wanna remember correctly, 5 months or so? It was ridiculously short.

Although Tony Ferguson won his comeback fight against Anthony Pettis, he couldn’t stay in the winning column for too long. After a win over Donald Cerrone, El Cucuy took a brutal beating from Justin Gaethje and lost the fight. From then, he lost six more fights consecutively. Now, he is tied with BJ Penn for consecutive losses. From 12 fight-win streak to 7 fight losing streak, UFC fans witnessed one of the most heartbreaking downfalls.
