Joe Rogan had an interesting guest in one of his recent podcast episodes. It was none other than notorious gambler Billy Walters, who had even bet millions on the Super Bowl. Even though Rogan did not gamble, most of the conversations between the duo were regarding gambling.
Walters had even authored a book on gambling but do not bet on combat sports. Rogan found it fascinating and even explained his reservations about gambling in combat sports. He found one big problem that would be very difficult if he had ever gambled on combat sports. This is what he said about it.
The thing that drives me the most cr*zy is the decisions...If I was a gambler and I laid a big bet..and it's a terrible decision, there is no more robbed feeling in the world...It's so subjective...With fighting, you've got three people, some of them don't know how to fight at all, and they're the ones who are deciding who wins and who doesn't win fights.Joe Rogan via JRE
Walters had in the past managed the late Roger Mayweather, the uncle of Floyd Mayweather in the 1980s. He also agreed with Rogan’s assessment as he stated that boxing had many controversial decisions in the 80s.
Unlike Joe Rogan, UFC CEO Dana White is a notorious gamble. White had spent a considerable amount of time in casinos. Moreover, Rogan had described White’s gambling proclivities in awe on multiple occasions on his podcast.
Joe Rogan reveals he predicted UFC 298 main event
Ilia Topuria dethroned Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 298 via vicious knockout in round 2. Many, including Joe Rogan, had reservations about Volkanovski’s decision to fight a few months after a knockout loss at UFC 294.
In his podcast episode featuring Billy Walters, Rogan revealed that he predicted the outcome. Rogan explained that even though Topuria had fought opponents inferior to Volkanovski, he believed that the power and timing of Topuria would cause problems. Incidentally, it was the timing and power of Topuria that enabled him to knock out Volkanovski.
UFC 298 was the first commentary assignment for Joe Rogan in 2024. He had reservations about the event as it was in California, a state Rogan despised. Even though he was a resident of California in the past, the political leanings of the government there made him move to Texas. Nonetheless, Rogan saw the coronation of Topuria as he had the best seats to witness it.
