During his conversation with Joe Rogan on the JRE podcast, Hamilton detailed his experience of spending over two decades in prison, he also detailed his wrongful conviction and his early life before the conviction. He went on to discuss how many black men are wrongfully convicted and kept in prison.

According to him, Systemic Racism is the main cause of these wrongful convictions in Brooklyn. The self-taught lawyer stated during the conversation with the UFC commentator, “We just began blasting the prosecutors. We began protesting outside the offices and getting rid of them The first one we was able to get rid of was Charles Hynes in Brooklyn, the prosecutor that sent me to prison.”

“We was able to remove him and put up a progressive prosecutor in that agreed that he would look at these convictions if he was elected. So he got in and in two years he exonerated 22 people. And he found that it was a systemic racist problem in Brooklyn that was convicting the wrong people.” Derrick told the podcaster.

Hamilton was eventually paroled and his case has since been vacated and dismissed after the CIU concluded that he was innocent of all charges. He now works as a paralegal and continues to help out in wrongful conviction cases.
