John McCarthy motions for more 10-10 rounds after what happened in Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza’s fight
Carla Esparza vs Rose Namajunas at UFC 274
Rose Namajunas took on Carla Esparza while her UFC strawweight title was on the line. Before the fight, given the reputation of Namajunas, people assumed that the fight would be extremely entertaining. But in reality the bout turned out to be boring and possibly the worst championship fight in UFC history.
Throughout the fight, both Namajunas and Esparza maintained distance and didn’t try much in the offense department. After five rounds of an uneventful bout, Esparza was declared the winner via split decision. The memories of the co-main event of UFC 274 is still fresh in many fans’ minds or it can be said that there was nothing to remember from that fight.
John McCarthy suggests 10-10 score for Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza fight
Recently former MMA coach and referee, McCarthy did an interview with MMA Junkie Radio where he spoke about the Namajunas vs Esparza fight.
In the interview, McCarthy explained that a fight like Namajunas vs Esparza is extremely bad and frustrating. Nothing happened throughout the fight and none of them were trying to initiate an attack. Although they hit each other a couple times in the whole fight they were not significant. McCarthy revealed that he was scoring the fight and gave 10-10 to both fighters as neither of them fought better. According to McCarthy both Namajunas and Esparza didn’t deserve any advantages.
” I always say the fights that are the worst, the ones where there’s not a whole lot happening, they’re not really going after each other, like we saw with Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas, especially the first round – I was judging it, I didn’t have anybody there, it was me by myself, and I put down 10-10. That’s a 10-10 round. And it’s really based upon neither fighter deserved to win that round. When you’re talking about giving an advantage to one fighter over the other, they both hit each other, I would say, one to two times, if that. And neither of those were great. You don’t deserve to have an advantage over your opponent in that,” said McCarthy.
When fans pay a lot of money and have massive expectations from a fight, it is really frustrating to see that fight being so boring. It is understandable that the stakes were high and both were under pressure but still many fans believe that as fighters they should have done some more, especially in a championship bout.
