“Needs retired UFC fighters to MOVE HIS NEEDLE,” Jon Anik spits some brutal, arguable truth on Jake Paul’s boxing career

Jon Anik- Jake Paul

Jon Anik is the type of man who doesn’t mince his words or muffles his voice when it comes to giving out the impeccably articulate product of his thought process regarding the ever-changing nature of combat sports, no matter how big the subject of his opinion, even as big as Jake Paul. Anik is longtime UFC broadcaster who was born and brought up in Boston and is now part of the commentary team of the world’s largest MMA organization. Anik is often seen doing the desk job on PPV events alongside UFC Hall of Famers Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier, and comedian and martial artist Joe Rogan.

Paul is originally a Youtuber who has been pursuing professional boxing for more than 3 years now and is 5-0 so far in his career. His resume includes wins over the likes of former MMA world champions, Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley. Paul is now looking to fight in late October of this year, and is most likely to be another former world champion in MMA in Anderson Silva. Paul is also a boxing promoter and sports betting advocate, kudos to having co-founded Most Valuable Promotions and Betr.

Jon Anik believes that Jake Paul needs “high profile MMA name to really swing the PPV pendulum”

Jake Paul x Anderson Silva
Silva and Paul are rumoured to be headlining a card in late October

In his interview with UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley, Anik talks about his upbringing, covering his first MMA event as a broadcaster, his daily routines, his routines before working, his take on Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz at UFC 279, his take on O’Malley vs Petr Yan at UFC 280 and much more. In the midst of all, Anik is also asked about his take on Paul potentially fighting Silva in October and that’s where Anik summarised Paul’s career strategy so far.

“I really think it’s interesting, the extent to which Jake Paul has to lean into MMA and retired UFC fighters to move his needle,” says Anik. “Obviously the UFC cuts my check and I like Jake Paul, I’ve been a supporter from day one but it does seem to me, that he really needs that high-profile MMA name to really swing the PPV pendulum…” concludes Anik saying he is open to being incorrect about his opinion. In his pick between Paul and Silva in a boxing match, Anik is going with the UFC middleweight great.

What do you make of Anik’s take on Paul’s career? Do you think he is right? Who do you think wins if Paul fights Silva? During his title reign as the longest reigning middleweight champion with second most title defences in UFC history, Silva had wins over the likes of Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Demian Maia, Rich Franklin, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Grifin, Yushin Okami, Derek Brunson, Stephan Bonnar and many more. Out of 33 wins, 23 wins in Silva’s MMA career have come by the way of knockouts.
