Jon Jones will return to the octagon in November to defend his heavyweight title against legend Stipe Miocic. Recently, Jones went on the Overdogs podcast to discuss his upcoming fight and potential retirement. One of the hosts wanted to know about the best fighter from Africa. The host gave the option of Israel Adesanya, Dricus Du Plessis, and “Platinum” Mike Perry.
As soon as the interviewer asked the question, Jon Jones started laughing. He replied, “The real n***a himself, Mike Perry.” The entire segment became the highlight of the podcast. Recently, Jones and Adesanya squashed their longstanding beef. It prompted the hosts to question Jones about the best fighter from Africa. However, the addition of Mike Perry highlighted the light-hearted tone of the question.
The rivalry between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis remains one of the most fierce ones in recent memories. Their rivalry involves the topics of race, immigration, and a prior beef. The duo were set to fight at UFC 293, but an injury to Du Plessis made the UFC go in another direction. Adesanya and Du Plessis claimed themselves as the “Real African,” which inspired the hosts to question Jones.
On the other hand, Mike Perry will serve as the backup for the boxing bout between Dillon Danis and Logan Paul. Since leaving the UFC, Perry has made a name for himself in the BKFC. His ability to take a punch and his knockout power makes him a huge threat in the BKFC.
Mike Perry called out Jon Jones to a BKFC fight in 2022

Jon Jones and Mike Perry trained under Greg Jackson for some time. At one point, Perry spoke highly of Jon Jones. The duo do not have beef, but Perry called out the current UFC heavyweight champion in 2022.
After a brutal end to his UFC with four losses from his last five bouts, Perry turned his career around in the BKFC. Perry fought Michael “Venom” Page in August 2022. The duo competed in a six-round war after the bout went to a five-round split decision. Perry called out Jake Paul and Jon Jones after his win.
However, the fight did not happen as Jones remains under contract in the UFC. The weight difference remains too much for Perry to overcome. Nevertheless, Jones also moved to the heavyweight division in 2023. Hence, a fight at 205 pounds also remains out of reach.
