“He’ll fight 3 times and that’s it”- Jon Jones’ teammate shares a shocking timeline for his retirement

Jon Jones will finally make a return to the octagon for UFC 285.

Jon Jones last fought Dominick Reyes back in February 2020 to defend his light heavyweight throne. He came out on top in that fight, and that marked the end of his legendary light heavyweight run. He relinquished his belt in order to move up a weight class and challenge him against the beats of the heavyweight division, but it’s been 2 years since the move, and fans are yet to see Jones in action.

Jones is now expected to face the former heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic in the near future, and a fight between these two could be the biggest heavyweight matchup we’ve ever seen. Stipe lost his title to Francis Ngannou back at UFC 260, and he is looking to get back in the title contention.

Jones has been working really hard for his heavyweight debut, and he took his training camp at Fight Ready, and he’s training under the guidance of former double champ, Henry Cejudo. Jon believes Henry’s expertise helped elevate his game to a new level, and with his new profound knowledge of MMA, he would grab the heavyweight belt without any problem.

Jones’ main training partner, Yorgan De Castro recently appeared in an interview with MMA Fighting, and he believes there’s no one in the heavyweight division who can truly pose a threat to his title run. He said, “Someone with good ground game, like Fabricio Werdum, to maybe give him some problem on the ground. I don’t see anyone else at Heavyweight with a good enough wrestling or ground game. And if they have good wrestling, Jones will be superior on the feet.”

Castro shared an interesting conversation he had with Jones, where he talked about his possible retirement. Castro said, “Ngannou will be out nine months to fix his knee and then needs six more months in camp. Jones will already be 35, and Francis will be, what? I think Jones fights once or twice more. He told me he’ll fight three times and that’s it. But, if he does fight, it’s hard to go against Jones.”

“His wrestling is very, very, very good. His jiu-jitsu is great, he trains with Roberto Alencar at Gracie Barra. And it’s hard to touch him. His distance is great. I don’t think I’ve touched him once. I walked forward and never touched him. He’s mean, has some techniques that are f**ng great. I think he’ll put Ngannou on the ground and will with his cardio, too,” Castro concluded.
