Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic are set to lock horns at MSG in October. They are heading UFC 295 which also has the co-main event of Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka for the vacant light heavyweight strap. Jones and Miocic have already hinted at retirement preluding to their clash.

Jones submitted Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the vacant light heavyweight title. “Bones” was recently seen training with arguable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu GOAT, Gordon Ryan as preparation for UFC 295. Ryan recently posted a picture with Jones with the caption, “Back to work. 5 weeks @jonnybones”, citing their training together. Bones commented on the post, “Meanwhile Stipe over there preparing for a boxing match” with a sly dig at Miocic. An interesting thing to note is that Miocic has never been submitted in his MMA career.

An interesting thing to note is that Ciryl Gane was never finished or submitted in his entire career. Jones accomplished that feat at UFC 285. Miocic has not fought since he lost the heavyweight belt to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. Jones became the champion at UFC 285 after a similar lay-off. The fight is unofficially billed as the battle between the GOAT of MMA and the GOAT of heavyweight MMA.

UFC 295 is set for November 11 at MSG in New York. In addition to the main event, the co-main event is also massive. Alex Periera would also be gunning for double-champ status against Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka once held the belt after defeating Periera’s mentor, Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. “Poatan” would be looking to avenge his friend and mentor against the Czech fighter.

When Jon Jones submitted Ciryl Gane to become the heavyweight champion of the UFC

After the heavyweight title was left vacant due to the departure of Francis Ngannou to the PFL, the UFC announced a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane. Jones was the former long-reigning light heavyweight champion coming from a long layoff whilst Gane was a former interim champion fresh of a TKO over Tai Tuivasa.

The fight began with a low blow from Ciryl Gane that halted action for some seconds. After that, Jones with pressure backed the Frenchman into the cage, secured a takedown, grabbed the neck, and forced the tap. The fight lasted less than a round. Jones was supposed to fight Francis Ngannou but the contract negotiations did not work well with Cameroonian and he left as a free agent.

The door is not fully closed for a potential bout between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. Ngannou is currently signed with the PFL. There are also rumblings of the takeover of Bellator MMA by the PFL. If the PFL becomes big enough to challenge the UFC, Dana White and the company could co-promote a fight between their elite heavyweights.
