Jordan Burroughs is one of the most acclaimed wrestlers in the USA. A person of his skill is praised by many wrestlers and Joe Rogan. During Jordan’s appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, he narrated his funny McDonald’s story.

Jordan has to date won six world titles and one Olympic gold in freestyle wrestling. In doing so, Jordan has defeated many elite wrestlers. He also set the bar for most world titles in freestyle wrestling after his recent win in 2022. Jordan won his Olympic gold medal in London in 2012. After this win, Burroughs went to McDonald’s for his first meal. However, to his surprise, the whole fast-food chain was packed. “I was like damn, I’ve been wrestling all day. I do not want to stand in line,” said Jordan.

To avoid standing in the long line, Jordan tried using his Olympic gold medal. He asked a guy if he could let him pass as he’s just won the Olympic Gold. “I was like, I just won Olympic Gold, like you think I can get in front of you,” said Burroughs while Joe Rogan laughed. The guy, however, did not believe Jordan. In the end, he had to take out and show his gold medal. The person in front of Jordan lost his calm and started making room for the wrestler.

He’s like ‘this guy just won Olympic Gold Medal. Let him to the front of the line, added Jordan Burroughs. Just like this, the Olympic gold medalist was able to get his meal without any extra wait. Joe Rogan could not contain his laughter after hearing this story. Despite many wrestlers shifting to MMA, Burroughs still competes in freestyle wrestling. However, he is respected a lot by teammates like Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo, who made their switch to MMA.

Six times world champion and onetime Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs might be one of the very few wrestlers to not transition to MMA. His peers and teammates, Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, and Ben Askren, were amongst the group of wrestlers that made the switch to MMA. Despite winning a gold medal and having great potential, Burroughs revealed why did not make the switch.

After winning his Olympic gold in 2012, Burroughs had all the intentions of moving to MMA. However, his wife was one of the biggest reasons why it did not happen. Jordan’s wife had many times talked him out of opting for MMA as a career path. It would have been a totally different domain for the Olympic wrestler. However, Burroughs later added that he does not regret his decision not to transition.

In fighting, you lose. You get something broken, choked out, tapped, unconscious. It’s a very, very different sport. Wrestling, you score as many points as possible doing the least damage as possible. In MMA, I feel like it’s different,” said Burroughs.

While Burroughs has achieved a lot in his career as a wrestler, a move to MMA might have worked in his favor. With fellow wrestlers like Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo making big in UFC, Burroughs could have been a huge potential prospect after making the switch.
