“You’re destroying careers,” Jorge Masvidal blasts judges that cause robbery following Vieira vs Holm controversy
Jorge Masvidal- Holly Holm vs Ketlen Vieira
Even UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal thinks there’s something wrong with the scoring system under unified MMA rules. Last, to last week, UFC’s fight card, UFC Vegas 55, had a women’s bantamweight fight as its main event between Ketlen Vieira and former champion, Holly Holm. To the world’s surprise, the split decision win was given to Vieira while many thought that it was Holm that took the rounds 3-2.
But some people, which included famous MMA personalities and journalists, explained that although Holm had the better of Vieira, the fight was scored in the correct manner and that Vieira’s damage was enough to outclass Holm’s clinch control and significant strikes count. This called for a debate on the change in the scoring system, which is a 10-point score system adapted from the sport of boxing. But the sport of MMA has many different dimensions other than striking, which is grappling on the ground as well as cage side fighting, things which are difficult to score under the simple 10-point system.
Jorge Masvidal suggests a different commission to hold judges accountable in case of robbery
In an interview with MMA Fighting’s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, Jorge Masvidal showed up to talk about his life these days, his desirable return fight and the ongoing lawsuit against as put by his former friend now foe and his UFC 272 opponent, Colby Covington. But Masvidal starts off by giving his thoughts about the ongoing talk about the officials of the commission and their way of robbing a fighter of his/her win.
“I strongly agree that there should be some accountability because as much as the judging overall has improved, there are still some sh*t referees out there,” says Masvidal. “There’s still some 30-27, 30-27 and then the other guy goes 30-27 for no reason happens of it like, you’re destroying careers man.
One fight could send a guy fighting for the world championship or back to the gun, like having to work his way back up there you know, I don’t think it’s fair to let these guys [the judges] go without accountability,” continues Masvidal that there should be a commission sort of entity for the judges where they can be held accountable.
What do you make of Jorge Masvidal’s outrage? Do you think he is right about the things needed to do to resolve the judging issues? What is your overall take on the ongoing debacle of debates regarding judging criteria? What is the biggest robbery you can recall? Also, who do you think should Masvidal be returning against inside the octagon back for the action?
