Colby Covington went after the welterweight title against Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Bad blood was boiling between the two after ‘Chaos’ disrespected Edwards’ late father during his trash-talk stint. Also, former US President Donald Trump was at the arena to support Covington. However, he lost the fight as ‘Rocky’ dominated him throughout the 5 rounds. Now, Covington’s foe Jorge Masvidal criticized his performance via Instagram.
It was well known to the MMA world that Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were arch-enemies. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were good friends once. However, they turned into foes after a series of events. As such, they hated each other to the core. So, the UFC booked a grudge match between them at UFC 272. Covington came out as the victor via unanimous decision.
But Masvidal did more damage outside the octagon as he attacked ‘Chaos’ in front of a steakhouse later. This was the incident mentioned in the Instagram story of ‘Gamebredfighter’.
Colby Covington took the physical confrontation to legal authorities and sued Jorge Masvidal. Only over a year did ‘Gamebred’ cut a plea deal with the court to be free. As such, the hatred between the two former friends only increased and didn’t cool off. As for their careers, Masvidal retired from professional fighting at UFC 287 and Covington just returned to the octagon after a long layoff.
