“I’m not happy closing the book”- Jorge Masvidal repeals what motivates him to compete

Despite saying he is unsure about the future, Jorge Masvidal is certain he will continue to play the sport. While speaking with Adam Catterall and Nick Peet for Blockparty, Masvidal discloses all of this.

UFC fighters make the majority of their money through fights and the pay they receive from each. Each time a fighter steps inside the Octagon, they usually sign a contract for a set number of fights for a set amount of money.

The payouts each fighter receives are affected by the fighter’s popularity and recent results. Fighters with the most fans get the best type of contract, the highest Tier, and the more viewers and fans they attract for the UFC, the better.

Jorge Masvidal’s net worth has been reported to be $6 million in 2022, based on his popularity and ranking in the UFC. So when Nick Peet asked if Jorge Masvidal was still fighting for the money, it wasn’t surprising because many people are curious about fighters of that caliber.

Masvidal immediately replies, “No, Money-wise I am good. I could have stopped like a year ago. I dont need to come back into the cage for the money. Does it bring me a lot more money? Of course, you know every time I fight it is way more money you know.”

He continues telling, “It is something in here you know. I’m not happy closing the book. There’s a couple people’s heads that I have to take off. I won’t stop the sport until I get some of these individuals out of the way.”

Jorge Masvidal has stated that he is determined to return to the octagon before the end of the year. Although he is now targeting a bout with Conor McGregor, he claimed that a battle with Gilbert Burns would be just as intriguing.

Masvidal revealed that he hoped to fight later this year, in November or December.  While a battle against McGregor would be just for money, Masvidal feels that a bout versus Gilbert Burns would be a doozie that spectators would not want to miss.

He says, “I would love to be there in December. It’s a strong possibility, November-December. Definitely going to fight this year no matter what. Don’t want to talk too much about it. Because as you know, I got some problems and stuff that I got to deal with, you know… If I can’t get [Conor McGregor] I’m probably thinking [Gilbert Burns]. It’s a good fight for me. I like him as a fighter because he comes to fight. He comes in to submit a guy or knock a guy the f**k out.”
