Jorge Masvidal‘s career trajectory shifted with the flying knee knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239. The picture of the flying knee is on the walls of the American Top Team gym in Coconut Creek, Miami, Florida. The knockout of Aksren was the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Recently, MMA fighter Xiko Loko scored a 4-second KO against Iury Silva at Acesso MMA 3. The fight had similarity to the Masvidal-Askren bout. In the video of the fight, Silva went for a flying knee attempt but botched it. Apparently, Loko expected it and therefore countered it by pulling on the leg. He followed it with ground and pound, finishing the fight in 4 seconds.

The fight was the perfect example of Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee attempt gone wrong. Masvidal’s knockout of Aksren at UFC 235 was between his victories over Darren Till and Nate Diaz. Masvidal beat all of them in the calendar year of 2019 after being inactive for almost two years. The win over Diaz won him the first symbolic “BMF” title.

The win over Diaz would also be his last win in the UFC. He would go on to lose to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 and UFC 261 for the welterweight title. This was followed by consecutive decision losses to Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns at UFC 272 and UFC 287, respectively.

Jorge Masvidal’s four-man team to fend off hypothetical alien invasion

Nina Marie Daniel conducted a string of interviews recently where she asked fighters about a hypothetical alien invasion. Alex Pereira, Jiri Prochazka, and Tom Aspinall all provided a four-man team to fend off this hypothetical invasion. Masvidal was also asked a similar question.

The team provided by Pereira, Prochazka, and Aspinall was dominated by fighters from the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions. However, Masvidal’s team was different. His team comprised of his former teammates Yoel Romero and Dustin Poirier with the retired undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Masvidal after his retirement is focused on his fight promotion. However, he hinted an interest in a boxing bout in a recent ESPN MMA interview. Moreover, he was recently involved in a feud with Chael Sonnen which made the MMA community take sides.
