‘If he wins, he is the GOAT’ – Josh Emmett talks about what’s at stake for Alexander Volkanovski in Max Holloway trilogy at UFC 276
Josh Emmett on Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway trilogy
Josh Emmett will be paying close attention to the upcoming featherweight title clash between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. The featherweight contender has an interesting take on what is at stake for both the featherweight kings in their much-awaited clash in the next pay-per-view event.
The featherweight division will finally settle its dispute of who the better featherweight is in Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 276. The two legends of the division have previously clashed twice and Volkanovski has got the better of Holloway both times. Josh Emmett who is coming off a controversial win against Kattar this past weekend has been wanting a title shot for his next fight.
Emmett believes he should get the winner of the upcoming trilogy fight at UFC 276. Josh has a lot of respect for Volkanovski for his undefeated run in the UFC. The featherweight champ now is on a 20+ fight winning streak and is looking to claim the GOAT status with a win over Holloway. Josh too believes that this trilogy fight means more than just the rivalry between two fighters. Though Jose Aldo had the longevity, Volkanovski now has beaten more opponents of high caliber than any other champion in the featherweight division.
“It solidifies who is the best” – Josh Emmett on what the upcoming featherweight trilogy will determine
Josh wouldn’t mind facing either of the two best featherweights in the octagon. Emmett said, “It doesn’t really matter, they’re both phenomenal fighters, some of the best featherweights of all time.” Like many fans, Josh too believes that the second fight between Volk and Max was very close and the fight could have gone either way. Alexander with a win at UFC 276 would really put the nail in the coffin.
“The way I do see it though, if Volkanovski wins, then he solidifies as the GOAT for now,” said Emmett about Volkanovski’s GOAT status. The Australian himself has been chasing that for a while now and it looks like he might get the acknowledgment from his peers as well after a trilogy fight win against the “Blessed” in July. “I think it solidifies who is the best,” said Emmett in the post-fight presser of his fight against Kattar.
“Volkanovski is a phenomenal champion. He’s undefeated in the UFC. He’s on some 20-fight win streak.” According to Josh he matches well with Volkanovski and knows he can get the better of “The Great”.
