“I had seen it in my dreams”- Julianna Pena vehemently dismisses claims that her previous victory against Amanda Nunes was an upset
UFC 277: Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes
In the main event of UFC 277, Julianna Pena will make her first defence of her women’s bantamweight title against fellow TUF coach Amanda in a repeat of Pena’s stunning victory in December.
We can all agree that the night Pena won the women’s bantamweight title, also known as the night Nunes lost it to end a legendary 12-fight winning streak, was arguably the greatest unexpected upset in the sport’s history.
Eight months later, after serving as rival coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter,” the two 205-pound heavyweights will square off once more in the highly-anticipated rematch that will take place on Saturday in Dallas as part of the UFC 277 pay-per-view event.
Here is why Julianna Pena victory against Amanda Nunes is considered an upset
Possibly the hardest puncher in women’s MMA is Nunes. And Pea stood in front of her and sparred with her for the majority of the second round. The heavy-handed Nunes was expected to deliver the devastating blow that would terminate the fight, as she had so frequently in the past, as each punch connected.
With regards to people in the MMA community calling an upset in an interview on ESPN MMA, she stated, “I mean it’s like cute in the sense, biggest upset in history but like was 100% fully committed to walking out there with my hands raised with the belt that night. I had seen it in my dreams, I had seen it when I close my eyes, i had seen it so many different times, there was not going to be any other outcome. I don’t ever say this but I was excited to get in there. I was excited to go in there and fight.”
Pea, though, has the upper hand this time. Last time, she called her shot, despite the fact that many people ignored what she said and laughed behind her back as pre-fight trash talk.
