In the recent UFC 293 media interviews, BMF champion Justin Gaethje replied to Jorge Masvidal’s callout for the BMF belt. Reportedly, Gaethje is one of the stars attending the UFC 293 event in Australia. Interviewers chose this opportunity to ask the “Highlight” about his opinion on a potential bout with Masvidal.

Gaethje dismissed any chances of a possible matchup with Masvidal for the BMF belt. He said, “Sounds fun, but I have one goal, it’s the undisputed championship. I have plenty of time after that to fight those fights. I don’t think he(Masvidal) is ever coming back. He looks like he weighs 240 pounds.

“Gamebred” fought his last fight against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. After losing to Burns, the Miami-based fighter bowed out of combat sports with a retirement speech. Recently, Masvidal hinted towards his possible return to the promotion. He indicated a desire to come back for the BMF title. In 2019, the BMF belt belonged to Masvidal after his TKO win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244. Later, the belt remained inactive until Masvidal announced his retirement from the sport. Gaethje fought Dustin Poirier for the BMF belt in July 2023. This matchup ended horrifically as Gaethje knocked out Poirier with a head kick in the 2nd round.

Although, currently, the “Highlight” doesn’t seem to entertain this idea. Gaethje has his eyes set on the lightweight championship. He’ll closely follow the October matchup between Charles Oliviera and Islam Makhachev. A potential title shot remains in the books for Gaethje.
