“Around 4000” Justin Gaethje expects a huge crowd of former teammates at UFC 274 in his home state of Arizona
Justin Gaethje is set to make his return against Lightweight Champion Charles Oliviera at UFC 274
Justin Gaethje who is in the promotional run for his upcoming title fight against Charles ‘Do Bronx” Oliviera, sat down for a 25-minute interview with Megan Olivi. The interview took place at the University of North Colorado’s wrestling room, the place where Gaethje spent most of his college life perfecting his passion for wrestling.
The interview ranged on a list of topics ranging from his time in college, reflections on his 3-round barnburner against Michael Chandler, and what winning the undisputed belt would mean to him.
However, before the fight starts there are other obstacles you have to clear, especially when you’re fighting in your home state of Arizona. In an interview with ESPN, Gaethje talked about how he felt that the event was shifted to his home state from the original booking in Brazil. When asked by Oligvi if he would have preferred enemy-turf Gathje said, “Initially I preferred Brazil, in hindsight I’d prefer Arizona.”

The former interim champ talked about his experience in fight island and how going to a different country affects him being a “creature of habit” who likes to have control over his eating and sleeping patterns, all things you need to adjust before a fight in a new country hence why he would prefer being on home turf.
However, the unexpected downside to this is having to give tickets to everyone you know and love, which can be a hassle on your home turf.
Justin Gaethje bought 25 tickets to give away to strangers
Gaethje, who is seen to be a very caring person outside the cage described how he would randomly give out tickets to people daily. “I had to buy 25 tickets,” said Justin Gathje when asked by Megan how many he to purchase for his friends and family. However, those tickets he bought are not meant for his friends but for people he meets outside.
Gaethje continued, “I met a veteran as I was riding my bike and gave him four tickets, just random people I’ll give tickets to that have never been to fights” detailing how one time he gave tickets to a couple he met during breakfast
Olivi also asked Justin Gaethje about how many people he knows are expected to be at the fight, to this he replied, “Thousands, I don’t know around 3000-4000.” Gaethje credited this to the fact that the title fight was to take place within a 30-mile area of places he wrestled at throughout his childhood. Let’s hope for a true homecoming for a true king in the lightweight division.
