Justin Gaethje shares his side of the 'Towel Gate' incident

Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje will fight at UFC 300. ‘The Highlight’ will put his newly acquired BMF title on the line. With utmost respect between the two fighters, there was no bad blood boiling. However, recently, an old video of Gaethje nearly exposing Holloway during UFC 218 weigh-ins resurfaced. As such, Holloway claimed this to be the ‘beef’ between them and named the instance Towelgate. Gaethje shared his thoughts about the incident.

In his recent conversation with Kevin Iole, Justin Gaethje defended his act and explained the situation. Here is what he said:

I saw him cut weight that whole week. He needed to step on that scale. I think the burden is on the people that paused that video and tried to look at what they were trying to look at. Because I’m so fast. There's no way they were going to see that with naked eye.

For context, Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje fought against Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez at UFC 218, respectively. During the weigh-ins, Holloway missed the championship weight at the first attempt. As such, ‘The Highlight’ volunteered to hold the towel for Holloway to secure his modesty when he removed his trousers to weigh in. However, Gaethje held the towel in front and hid the scales. So, quickly, he lifted the towel to place it behind the scales. Thus, it exposed ‘The Blessed’ for a split second.
