Though Justin Gaethje would have loved to take on Charles Oliveira in front of a packed arena full of Do Bronx fans in Brazil, “The Highlight” relishes the fact that the UFC is coming to his state of Arizona for UFC 274.
Justin Gaethje gets his title shot against Charles Oliveira and will be taking on the lightweight champion on May 7th this weekend. After several talks of Do Bronx defending his belt in his home country, Brazil, UFC has decided to set the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona as their desired venue for UFC 274. Gaethje is more than excited to fight here and he talks about his feelings ahead of the huge matchup.

Recently Justin sat down with Megan Olivi for an interview with ESPN MMA ahead of the huge pay-per-view bout. In the interview, Gaethje mentioned that he has been giving a lot of fans free tickets as an act of kindness. “I bought 25 tickets,” said Gaethje.
“I got 25, I like to give tickets. Like I met a veteran on the corner as I’m riding my bike and I give him 4 tickets. Random people, I will give tickets to those who have never been to fights. Maybe I will find myself in a conversation during breakfast with a couple that has never been to fights.”
Justin Gaethje reveals his history with Arizona

Justin was born in Safford, Arizona and has started his fighting career there. The fighter, before mixed martial arts was a NCAA Division I wrestler. Justin has fought all over the state of Arizona during his college days and has made a lot of friends in his time. The fighter reveals that around couple thousand friends will be present at the FootPrint Arena on May 7th to witness him fight Charles in the octagon.
“I had some of my most competitive times through high school, right 30 to 40 miles from where I am going to fight. So the connection I have, I won’t even know the people that are going to watch me,” said Justin. It is safe to say that we will witness a huge roar of support for “The Highlight” when he walks into the octagon this weekend.
Justin is coming off a fantastic win against one-time title contender Michael Chandler at UFC 268. Gaethje will be looking to turn things around from his previous title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254. Watch his full interview below:
