Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno to battle it out for Interim Flyweight Gold at UFC 277
Kai Kara-France vs Brandon Moreno
Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara France are being targeted for a bout at UFC 277, that will crown an interim champion in the absence of Deiveson Figueiredo. The duo have formerly faced off at UFC 245 where the Assasin baby came out on top with a unanimous decision victory over the Kiwi.
According to an initial report by Ariel Helwani, both fighters have verbally agreed to a bout that will take place on the 30th of July however the venue for the pay-per-view is yet to be announced. The upper echelons of the flyweight division have been held hostage for over two years in a constant struggle between Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo trying to one-up each other in their highly exciting trilogy. However, everyone seems to be fatigued by the constant battles between the two, and the division would most likely want to move on
Brandon Moreno to face Kai Kara France, his first opponent in 2 years not named Deiveson Figueiredo
In his previous outings, the city kickboxing prodigy, Kara-France has a more diverse resume, with him gaining two first-round finishes over #8 ranked Rogério Bontorin, former Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt, and most recently a unanimous decision victory over the former undefeated prospect and currently the number 3 ranked flyweight, Askar Askarov.
Moreno meanwhile has been on a series of epics with Figueiredo, their first bout ending in a majority draw, something Moreno would correct with a second-round submission victory over the Brazillian in their rematch, crowning himself with the Flyweight Championship. He went on to lose the trilogy fight along with the title and many saw the fourth outing between the two as an immediate possibility due to how close the fight was. After Deiveson Figueiredo announced that he had suffered an injury during the fight and will have to be on the sidelines for some time, that possibility was put to rest.
In their rematch targetted for July, a victory for Brandon Moreno would warrant a fourth fight against Figueiredo while a victory for Kai would be the first time he touches UFC Gold. Both men have gained a ton of experience and mastered their craft since the last time they faced off and the bout surely would add more fireworks to what is seemingly a stacked card.
