Kamaru Usman has hinted at a move up to light heavyweight to contend for the UFC 205-pound title, but many fans are sceptical that the pound-for-pound king can pull it off.

With a record of 20-1, the incumbent champion has already been dubbed one of the greatest fighters of all time. Historically, champions have moved up or down one weight class in order to become a double champion.

The Nigerian Nightmare now intends to go up to make his goal a reality, but he wants to avoid the section directly above him totally. He recently announced his position on a battle against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, stating that he has no desire to compete against his friend.

Recently Kamaru Usman was interviewed by Aaron Bronsteter, where he asks him to reveal why he intends on jumping not one but two weight classes.

Aaron brings up Kamaru’s age indicating that pretty soon he won’t be where he is soon and questions him if the reason he is planning on challenging far above his weight class is only to leave his mark in the UFC.

Replying to him, Kamaru initially explains how he has grown to comfortable in his division, which is why he seeks the challenge and him moving to would be relatively easy since he is after all the Pound for Pound King. He says, “I’ve been able to get through all of these guys at welterweight and I’m like, you know what, 205 looks kinda good… Because being the pound-for-pound means at any given moment on any given day at any given weight, you can hold your own.”
