Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was present at the UFC 292 event supporting his teammate Justin Gaethje. The welterweight seemed ecstatic when Gaethje knocked out fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier with a kick to the head. Usman has also been a victim of a vicious leg kick to the head. After the event ended Usman comforted Poirier about his loss.
The interaction between the two fighters was wholesome and appreciated by the fans. Usman embraced Poirier while saying “I felt for you brother” relating to his loss. Poirier replied to that by saying “No no man it’s what we do. Its war man, it’s war”. Poirier handled the loss in a very professional but is still devastated by his loss.
Usman also faced the same fate as Poirier when he was knocked out by current welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Usman dominated his second fight with Edwards and was winning the fight on the scorecards. But in the 5th round, Edwards caught Usman with a perfect leg kick that knocked the welterweight king out cold. The two fought again at UFC 286 with Edwards getting the majority decision.
Poirier and Gaethje have fought each other before with “Diamond” coming out as the victor. The fights between them have always been entertaining and a trilogy in the foreseeable future will be appreciated by the fans. Fans will look forward to both Usman and Poirier getting back to their winning ways.

Kamaru Usman wants to fight Stephen Thompson
Usman has called out multiple opponents since his loss to Leon Edwards in their trilogy. One of the main names was Khamzat Chimaev who had some back and forth with Usman before moving up to middleweight, leaving the Usman fight. Since then Usman has expressed his interest in fighting No.7 ranked Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Thompson was supposed to fight Michel Pereira at UFC 292 but the bout had to be canceled due to Pereira missing weight. Usman expressed his interest by saying “The only guy that would even make sense right now, Wonderboy, because he’s an opponent, he’s been around so long and he’s just that name to where it’s always a great fight. His style is very, difficult to fight” He also considers “Wonderboy” to be one of the fights that he wanted in his era as the welterweight champion.
Usman’s title reign at welterweight was one of the most dominant reigns in the history of the division and the UFC. His striking ability and knockout power are unmatched to this date. Fans will be looking forward to seeing Usman back in the ring soon against a formidable opponent.
