Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev went one on one in the main event of UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Emerging victorious from the matchup Islam Makahachev submitted Charles Oliveira to end Oliveira’s unbeaten streak.
As soon as the first round began Makhachev delivered a solid right hand in response to a few kicks from Oliveira in the opening seconds. Then Makhachev achieved a takedown. Makhachev powered free as Oliveira instantly started to work for submissions.
When the Brazillian made a sweeping threat, the action resumed on its feet. Makhachev performed another takedown with a hip throw. Before the round came to a close, Oliveira delivered a powerful kick.
In the second round, Charles went for a knee strike on Makhachev which the Dagestani managed to avoid, and landed a punch on Charles’s head to bring him down to the floor. Makhachev wasted no time holding Oliveira in an arm triangle lock to which Oliveira succumbed and tapped out at around 3minutes 17seconds into the match.
By defeating Oliveira, Makhachev has become the new Lightweight champion and managed to keep his unbeaten run alive. Islam Makhachev has proven himself as the heir to Khabib Nurmagomedov and has brought the Lightweight gold back to Dagestan.

Soon after the lightweight belt got its rightful heir, MMA fighters started flooding Twitter with their congratulatory tweets. The welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was delighted by the victory of Makhachev.
He tweeted, “Let’s gooooooooooooo Islam”
UFC middleweight fighter Paulo Costa hilariously pointed out through his Post that Dillon Danis is the only fighter that could defeat Makhachev.
The Veteran fighter Cub Swanson was shocked by the defeat of Charles Oliveira. He tweeted, “Wow Olivera gets submitted! ? This sport is Wild! And sooo Unpredictable.”
The featherweight fighter Brian Ortega who is a Jui-Jitsu requested Khabib to make him his pupil through his tweet. He said, “Khabib train me please”
UFC heavyweight champion didn’t see Makhachev’s submission coming. He shared this by tweeting on his offcial Twitter handle.
