The former welterweight champion is renowned for his boisterous pre- and post-fight banter. Kamaru Usman has been on the list of welterweight GOATs for a long time, however, things are delayed after facing two consecutive defeats against Leon Edwards. However, more interestingly, there is one more rivalry that is one of the favorites in the MMA community.

The second biggest rival of Kamaru Usman’s career was Colby Covington, with whom he fought twice in the UFC. Nigerian Nightmare first fought against Covington, where he secured a controversial knockout victory. But when they fought again, it went until the last seconds of the final round. Kamaru won the fight via decision and was able to defend his title.

Recently, former champions praised the skill and awareness of Chaos when they fought for the second time. Praising the wrestling of his opponent was Usman’s biggest take, as he revealed they just didn’t want wrestling. The 36-year-old himself is one of the best wrestlers in the welterweight division. Nigerian-born Tyson also praised the mentality of chaos as he mentioned “mental agreement” on the Mike Tyson podcast.

While speaking on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, Kamary Usman noted, “then you get the right dance partner which for me was Colby Covington. He is a dance partner for anybody, there was so much to build up that fight. It was just something about that fight, some you just want to fight and we are both high-level wrestlers. We just made a mental agreement with each other that we were not wrestling. Our spirits made a mental agreement.”

The second battle was witnessed by a larger audience, as both were ready to lose their bones. A flurry of punches and kicks, this fight was one of those where they both wanted to hurt their opponent. It was a tough night for the former champion as well, as he was not able to walk after walking for the cage.

Kamaru revealed “I left that fight, I was swollen and bruised up and you saw instantly what that dance partner brought out. I think these boxers need each other, same as me and Colby did. I remember just walking through a casino and I couldn’t walk through without people everywhere. But all of these fights are now starting to pop up for people.”

After losing two contests against Leon Edwards, Kamaru opened up about his desire to fight Khamzat Chimaev. Both fighters agreed to fight at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
