Jose Caceres is an American professional mixed martial artist who is from Miami, Florida. His Professional MMA record is 15-12-1. Caceres currently fights in Xtreme MMA (XMMA). His last fight was a Ko loss to Angelo Trevino in October 2021.

Jose and Usman fought each other at CFA 11 back in 2013. Caceres defeated Kamaru Usman via first-round submission with a rear-naked choke. Even with a strong start to the fight with an early takedown, Usman’s lack of BJJ resulted in him making an escape attempt in terror which exposed his back to his opponent.

After the win, Jose picked up another win in his next bout with Carlos Alberto Bazan Rojas via another rear-naked choke the same year. However, he suffered his fourth carrier loss after running into Colby Covington at CFA 12 in 2013. He lost the fight via unanimous decision.

Usman discussed his loss to Jose in an interview last year and discussed what happened in the fight, and his lack of BJJ. He stated, “I go in, right away. Boom boom! Hit him with the one-two, change levels, took him down. Full mount, I’m on the top and I’m trying to land punches and I just remember he wrapped his legs around me.”

The champion further discussed his surprise as he has never seen the techniques before and panicked, costing him the fight, “I have never seen this s**t before. So I’m like let’s turn around and get up. Because it’s foreign I’m scared and I try to get up which is not what you do.”

The champion also stated that he learned a lot from that loss and went right back to the drawing board to get better. This is obviously evident as he hasn’t lost since and is just beating up top contenders and former champions.
