The friendship between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Daniel Cormier is just iconic. Both the UFC Hall of Famers go way back to when Nurmagomedov joined the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose. Cormier and Nurmagomedov became close friends and trained with each other. As hard as they train, the comedic duo likes to have fun by roasting each other in sports. There are several clips online of Nurmagomedov and DC having fun in the AKA.
In one of such clips, Daniel Cormier jokingly asked Nurmagomedov to keep his eyes low while talking. According to DC, he was a double champion and was better than Nurmagomedov.
“First of avert your f**** eyes. Do not look at me directly,” DC hilariously asked Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov initially fought and said, “Coach(Javier Mendez), this guy thinks he’s champ, I’m champ too. Be careful.” Then as DC showed Nurmagomedov two fingers implying his two championships, Nurmagomedov accepted his defeat and said: “A, double champ. Oh, sorry. I forget about it.”
Finally, after four long years, Nurmagomedov got his opportunity to strike back after Islam Makhachev won the lightweight championship at UFC 280. “You, hey eyes down,” Nurmagomedov said to Cormier while laughing. ” Eyes down brother. He have only old belts. It’s ok brother next life. Next life.” After that, both hugged each other and this banter just shows how long they have come as friends.
Daniel Cormier is highly impressed by Islam Makhachev’s performance at UFC 280
At UFC 280, Islam Makhachev shook the world by not only beating Charles Oliveira but the way he submitted the Brazilian with ease. Going into the fight, fans doubted Makhachev’s credentials to fight for the title but the Dagestani just proved everybody wrong by becoming the new champion. Daniel Cormier, who is a great friend and sparring partner of Makhachev, was proud of his performance.
“He did it to a Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira who was in shape, who was prepared, but he knew exactly what he needed to do and I thought that was shown very early in the fight,” Cormier said on DC & RC. Cormier also shared his own experience of sparring with Makhachev.
“I’ve been in this kid’s arm triangle. It’s so tight. The moment he was able to clear guard, Charles Oliveira tapped, and I’m telling you, it was one of the most dominant performances that we’ve ever seen from a challenger,” said DC.
Makhachev is currently focused on getting the pound-for-pound number-one spot by beating Alexander Volkanovski next year. Fans are extremely excited about this fight and it surely is a great match-up.
