Former UFC lightweight champion and undefeated fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has an infamous feud with UFC superstar Conor McGregor. While ‘The Eagle’ defeated McGregor in 2018, he does not like talking about the Irish fighter to this day. In fact, he also shut down Stephen A. Smith when the renowned sports analyst tried asking questions about McGregor.

In a historic clash that captivated UFC fans around the globe, the Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov rivalry reached its peak, breaking records for pay-per-view sales. The Eagle showcased his superior prowess, ultimately defeating McGregor via submission in the fourth round. However, the aftermath was marred by a shocking moment when Nurmagomedov jumped the cage, attempting to confront McGregor’s teammate, sparking a chaotic brawl. Despite the victory, Khabib chose not to dwell on the past, preferring to steer clear of any further discussions regarding his former rival.

Before retiring in 2020, Khabib fought then-interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Leading up to the fight famous sports journalist Stephen A. Smith interviewed Nurmagomedov. He asked Khabib his thoughts on McGregor’s comeback, and The Eagle was quick to reveal he did want to waste his time talking about the former double champion. “I don’t think he’s ever going to deserve this title shot because he’s not focused, drinks too much, smashes old people. He don’t deserve my attention,” said Khabib.

While Smith asked a few more questions regarding Conor, he was quickly shut down.” Right now, even I don’t want to talk about this s***,” said Khabib. After the interview, Khabib went on to dominantly defend his title against Justin Gaethje and retired after the fight. The Eagle is currently trying to stay away from MMA to focus more on family and business.

Following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement from the UFC, his teammate Islam Makhachev stepped up and achieved a remarkable feat by capturing the lightweight title. Under Khabib’s guidance and mentorship, Makhachev reached new heights in his career, and the former champion stood firmly by his side as his biggest supporter for an extended period. However, despite their strong bond, Nurmagomedov has decided not to be present in Islam’s corner anymore, allowing the rising star to forge his own path and continue his journey in the sport independently.

As of 2023, Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken off some time from MMA to focus more on family and other business. He was not present with him during his bout against Alexander Volkanovski, which saw Islam emerging victorious. Now he is set to fight Charles Oliveira in a rematch in Abu Dhabi at UFC 294. While Khabib most likely would not be in Islam’s corner yet again, he has some advice for Makhachev.

The Eagle has cautioned that Islam should take his training very seriously and make the most out of his camp. “93 days until the fight. You can’t take your foot off the gas, just go ahead, brother,” said Khabib on his Instagram story tagging Islam Makhachev. With Khabib no longer in Islam’s corner, the question arises whether the current lightweight champion can defend his title dominantly. All will be revealed on October 21 at UFC 294, where fans eagerly await to witness this epic showdown.
