Khabib Nurmagomedov slams the French football league for banning players from speaking on the Israel-Hamas war. Recently, Nice suspended their defender, Youcef Atal, after he posted about the Israel-Hamas conflict on social media. The Algerian player then deleted the post, and he was called in to meet with the club upon his return from international duty.
The Nice public prosecutor’s office launched a preliminary investigation, which resulted in Atal’s suspension. According to reports, Atal is the subject of this inquiry because of his purported involvement in “defending terrorism” through internet message sharing. A further charge against Atal is “public incitement to hatred or violence based on a specific religion.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is a huge fan of football and openly supports Palestine in the ongoing war, took to his social media to sarcastically criticize League 1 and France. He wrote on his Instagram story,
“This is real freedom speech. France."
The Algerian player had previously issued an apology for his deleted post, stating on Instagram that he didn’t intend to shock people and apologizing for any offense caused. He made it clear that he strongly condemns all types of violence worldwide and stands in support of all victims.
