“Use your hips”- Khabib Nurmagomedov turns trainer and offers free advice to Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman
Khabib Nurmagomedov took up the role of a coach for Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been retired for almost two years now since his third and final defense. The reason for his departure from the sport was the death of his father and a promise he made to his mother that he wouldn’t fight without Abdulmanap at his side. Though Khabib has retired from competing, the former lightweight Champion has only one true love, one that he shared with his father that is combat.
In this regard Khabib has dedicated the rest of his life to various endeavors to lift up the sport, from starting his organization, taking over the rank of coach passed down by his father, and even trying to get MMA included in the Olympics. His biggest post-retirement undertaking is definitely managing his own MMA Promotion in Eagle FC. To promote this ambition of his where he wants to promote the fighters of tomorrow, he often receives help from his friends in the UFC.
To that extent Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, two of Khabib’s management partners have joined forces with Eagle FC acting as commentators and semi-influencers. Khabib who has in the past to Usman as his brother was seen with the current welterweight champion and the former two-division champion Henry Cejudo in the cage for the Eagle FC event this week in Miami. The trio was previously spotted on “The Anatomy of Fighter” where they can be seen arguing the merits of each of their sporting background.
Khabib Nurmagomedov feels Henry Cejudo shouldn’t rely on his striking with Olympic Accolades
In a video posted by Chael Sonnen, Cejudo is seen arguing with Khabib about the distance he needs to maintain, in order to avoid a takedown while still being able to strike. Khabib, however, doesn’t seem impressed by the idea of kicking to stay out of range at which point Kamaru Usman steps in saying, “Khabib said, I’m just coming” imitating the Dagestani’s way on walking in towards strike with his guard up high to score a takedown.
Khabib then asks Cejudo about how many guys he’s knocked out to which Cejudo replies saying “4 guys in the UFC.” Taken back by the answer Khabib responds, “You’re 35 years old and you knock out 4 guys?” shutting of Cejudo who tried correcting the number to 5, Khabib continued, “You don’t need distance you’re an Olympic Champion. How many Olympic champions in freestyle wrestling you meet in your life” Kamaru steps in to back Cejudo saying that “Wrestling is tiring” to which Khabib responded, “If you use your hips after you take (him) down and make him lift yourself, of course, he’s gonna get tired”
Khabib and Henry have both been coaches lately however Henry sure does have the most star-studded classes with fighters like Jon Jones, Zhang Weili and Jiri Prochazka frequenting. Cejudo also tried to give some coaching tips to Conor McGregor, something “The Notorious” did not appreciate
